Custom Jewelry Designer
Turning your favourite travel memories into wearable art.
How it started
As someone who is a designer that also has a passion for jewelry design; for my capstone project I thought about the jewelry personalization experience and realized that there is untapped potential. My research showed me that almost all "personalized" jewelry is just custom laser engraving, which doesn't really allow for much personalization other than some text and some simple icons etc.

This led me to think about how then, can I create a new experience that allows users to create something that is completely unique and customized to them? Next was thinking about what is personal to people and why people wear jewelry. Some of the answers were for fashion, it used to belong to a family member, they bought it when they were travelling or they just like the piece in general. But one thing that I thought of that resonates with almost everyone are places! Places can have significant meaning for people; places they were born or grew up, places that they travelled, got married, honeymoons and so many more other memories! Places have the ability to evoke emotion and visual memories which are core to each person. With memories as the anchor for the user I continued think about how I can transplate physical places onto a piece of jewelry.
The Concept
To create an web application that utilize and integrate GIS (Geographic Information System) and map data to create a unique personalized design on a base model 3D model. The goal would be for this application to work as a kiosk experience that users can interact with and build their custom piece to eventually place an order for their design.
Detailed case study coming soon... In the meantime, try out the live working web app!  link
What I learned
What's next?
Some things I would like to improve if I continue to work on this project are:
- Refine the user experience
- Spend more time on the visual branding
- Integrate Stripe
- Add more micro interactions for better feedback and make the users experience smoother and more intuitive.
